Masterworks II: Anton Nel Plays Brahms

About this event

A Pianist’s Pianist

Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is bold, dramatic and deeply lyrical, pairing the scale of a symphony with the intensity of a solo concerto. Pianist Anton Nel, winner of the 1987 Naumburg International Piano Competition, joins GSO at The Grand for one of the season’s major works.

The afternoon opens with Johann Stamitz’s Sinfonia in A Major , followed by Dvořák’s atmospheric The Wood Dove , before Brahms takes center stage after intermission.

On the Program: Johann Stamitz: Sinfonia in A Major Antonín Dvořák: The Wood Dove —intermission— Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1

Want to hear Nel in a more intimate setting first? Join him Friday, November 13 at Levin Hall at UTMB as part of GSO’s Moody Mansion Music series.
