About this event
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2026 | 7–9 PM: Moody Center for the Arts presents a screening of Ancient Beacons Long for Notice , the third film in artist Dario Robleto’s trilogy exploring the history and legacy of NASA’s Golden Record, launched aboard the Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Containing images, music, languages and sounds representing life on Earth, the record was intended as a message to potential extraterrestrial civilizations. Robleto’s film examines what humanity chose to include—and omit—while exploring questions of memory, conflict and our responsibility to future generations and unknown audiences.
Following the screening, Robleto joins Harvard art historian Jennifer L. Roberts and Rice University professor Alexander Regier for a discussion and Q&A. The conversation will also explore Robleto and Roberts’ forthcoming book, The Heartbeat at the Edge of the Solar System: The Golden Record and Our Search for Connection . Presented in conjunction with Rice University’s Space Humanities Initiative and the Moody’s Tent Series.
