Birdsong

About this event

Isaac Schultz and Theo Chandler present BIRDSONG, a chamber music concert inspired by the unique birdlife of Houston. Presented in collaboration with Birds Houston, the performance celebrates the beauty and diversity of the birds that share our city and its surrounding habitats.

The core of BIRDSONG is a world premiere. Theo has composed a new chamber concerto for Isaac, drawing inspiration from some of Houston’s most beloved birds: migrating songbirds, night herons wading through the bayous, strident flocks of grackles, and the bustling rookery at Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary in High Island. Isaac will be joined onstage by an ensemble featuring some of Houston’s leading musicians.

The concert will feature an onstage conversation with Jed Aplaca, President and CEO of Birds Houston, about the remarkable birdlife of Southeast Texas and the vital conservation work being done to protect it. Together, Jed, Theo, and Isaac will explore what we can learn by paying close attention to our avian neighbors - their songs, behaviors, and relationships - and the creative process that turns these observations into music.

BIRDSONG is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
